The Story of Samrat Namkeen is Sweet and Simple.
It began as a small home-made eatables’ unit at Swaminarayan Temple, Narayan Ghat, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India in 1979.
Wafers, Sevs, Bhujias, Dal, Chavana, Chevda . . .made with delicious secret traditions of India.
The taste is irresistible, the products are fresh, and the packing is appealing and hygienic.
In the following years, the company has evolved consistently, dictated by customer demands and market trends.
Today, Samrat is a snack foods’ conglomerate that manufactures 32 popular products. These products reach taste-lovers in every nook and corner of India. They are also exported successfully. Samrat also produces delicious ready-to-eat sweet bar called chikki which is a traditional Indian sweet.
Today, Samrat is quoted as one of India’s most inspiring scratch-to-riches stories.
1979, Mr. Jayshankar S. Vaid was young and his mind was brimming with ideas of entrepreneurship.
Through the week, he scouted around for an entrepreneurial break. He visited and studied various industries and weighed their pros and cons. On weekends, Mr. Vaid indulged in what most of his friends thought was an unusual hobby – making Namkeens. On those days, he had turned his kitchen into a virtual R&D lab for his experiments in Namkeens. Later, he would relish these with his family and friends. Then one day, in a moment dictated by destiny, the thought struck him: why not turn the hobby into a business? After all, everyone likes to eat good things.
Thus began Mr. Vaid’s life as a Namkeen manufacturer. He was a modest man, but named his product `Samrat`, meaning `King / Emperor`, because he was confident of its taste value. He himself prepared the Namkeens, packed them and supplied to homes nearby. There was no way that such conviction could lose.
Today, 32 sumptuous food items are marketed under the Samrat brand. There are taste experts, food scientists, management veterans and a network of marketing channels, to take the Samrat brand far and wide.
But, there is one aspect of his business that he still directly controls — QUALITY. This is the reason why Samrat products still retain their home-like crunchy taste and freshness.

What began modestly in 1979, with a single man functioning as proprietor, manufacturer and supplier, is today a large enterprise employing highly proficient and skilled people. This proud workforce includes taste scientists, foodstuff industry veterans, management experts, experienced chefs, recipe-makers and plant engineers. All these people, from the directors to the work persons at the plant, are bonded by the ethics of quality work. It’s the guiding sprit that permeates through all endeavours of the company. The corporate culture at Samrat Namkeens prompts every one to contribute to the quality chain, at his / her individual level.

In the future, we will bring more exotic tastes into extended number of homes around the world. We will bring out various traditional food items of India in a modern packaged format, and offer them to taste-lovers everywhere. We will bring more blends with enhanced flavour that would combine traditional Indian snacks with popular food items from other parts of the world.
We will develop enhanced series of methods for long-term storage and freshness retention. With more number of domestic and overseas distribution outlets, Samrat brand spreads itself to newer markets. However, there is one thing about us that will never change — that distinct home-made taste which has been the signature of our success.
